About
My name is Alyson DaPonte and I have been involved with animals for years. My love for breeding began when I was in elementry school and my parents had their first litter of beagles. I was very involved in the process and hand fed the puppies. Later, I graduated Bristol County Agricultural High School with Small Animals as my major. From there I began interning and working at a veterinary clinc. There they bred Cattle Dogs and Labradors. I learned a lot about breeding and participated in quite a few c sections. Then I moved on to working at a very successful Lab breeder where they went more in debth about what it is like to breed dogs professionally. Now I am a groomer and breed my pets as a hobby. My dogs are all my personal pets and live in my house with me, hence why we are not considered a kennel.
Why choose AKC registration?
The AKC is a registry in America for purebred dogs that was founded in 1876. They set a standard for what a purebred Pembroke Welsh Corgi should conform to, and set regulations for breeders. They also set up events like conformation, agility and other types of shows to put breeding stock to the test.
Here at Gooseberry Acres, we are assuring that our puppies will be free from inherited diseases. The process is simple, we take a swab from the cheek of the dog in question and send it to the lab to be examined. Then the lab locates the specific gene and records if it is normal, or abnormal. Pembroke Welsh Corgis are prone to DM (Degenerative Mylopathy), EIC (Exercise Induced Collapse) and VWD1 (Von Wilderderbands Disease type 1 ). With DNA testing, we can eliminate the possibility of spreading these genetic diseases to our puppies that we produce. Preventing the spread of these diseases benefits the breed as a whole.
